Privacy Policy

When you start counselling with me, I will need to collect some personal information so that I can work with you safely and professionally. This policy explains what I do with that information.

What I collect

I will ask for your name, contact details, and an emergency contact (such as your GP). During our sessions I will also keep brief notes about our work together.

Why I need it

I use this information to provide you with counselling, keep appropriate records (as required by my professional body and insurance), and to contact you about appointments.

How I keep it safe

All records are stored securely, either on password-protected devices or in locked storage. Only I have access to them.

Why I need it

I use this information to provide you with counselling, keep appropriate records (as required by my professional body and insurance), and to contact you about appointments.

How long I keep it

I keep your records for 5 years after counselling ends, as required by my insurance and professional guidelines. After that, they are securely destroyed.

When I might share information

What you share in counselling is confidential. I will only break confidentiality if:

  • I believe there is a serious risk of harm to you or others

  • I am required by law (for example, in cases of terrorism or safeguarding)

  • My professional supervisor needs to support me in my work (in which case your identity will be protected)

Your rights

You have the right to see the information I hold about you or to request that I delete it (unless I need to keep it for legal reasons).
