What I collect
I will ask for your name, contact details, and an emergency contact (such as your GP). During our sessions I will also keep brief notes about our work together.
Why I need it
I use this information to provide you with counselling, keep appropriate records (as required by my professional body and insurance), and to contact you about appointments.
How I keep it safe
All records are stored securely, either on password-protected devices or in locked storage. Only I have access to them.
Why I need it
I use this information to provide you with counselling, keep appropriate records (as required by my professional body and insurance), and to contact you about appointments.
How long I keep it
I keep your records for 5 years after counselling ends, as required by my insurance and professional guidelines. After that, they are securely destroyed.
When I might share information
What you share in counselling is confidential. I will only break confidentiality if:
I believe there is a serious risk of harm to you or others
I am required by law (for example, in cases of terrorism or safeguarding)
My professional supervisor needs to support me in my work (in which case your identity will be protected)
Your rights
You have the right to see the information I hold about you or to request that I delete it (unless I need to keep it for legal reasons).
